Fr. John Corapi: The Consequence of Abusing Freedom
"One of the most common errors of all time is to confuse freedom and license. Today, frequently under the specious pretext freedom, mankind acts in a manner that is really license. We are not morally free to do whatever we choose to do. Only when rooted in truth and acting in objective truth can we hope to be free. No one has the moral right to do evil. No one has the moral right to choose to take an innocent life or to engage in actions that are out of accord with right reason or any objective standards of morality we have ever known.
"The inevitable consequence of abusing freedom is losing freedom. Soon, if we do not alter our present course, the United States will no longer be the home of the brave and the land of the free. Loss of personal freedoms, one at a time, is already well underway. One day we shall awake from our moral slumber and find that we have become slaves.
"We must live in truth and act in truth if we are to remain free. Abuse it and I assure you we shall lose it! Wake up America! God is not a disinterested spectator. Let’s thank God for our freedom, but let’s not sit by idly while the forces of darkness divorce freedom from truth. For, as Jesus says, “The man who sins is the slave of sin.” (John 8:34)

Bishop Victor Galeone: His Parents Rejected Abortion
When Bishop Victor Galeone's mother was pressured by a social worker to abort her fourth child (him), she responded:
“I told her that I could never do that…that I would rather die first."
His father's response to the threat to take away benefit cards if an abortion was not performed was equally heroic:
"Very well, let them! Let them have their cards back! The Lord will provide. ”
Bishop Galeone tells of his mother's emotional revelation:
"On two occasions of my life, I stayed awake all night long. One was a case of food poisoning in Peru. The other was Mother’s Day 1970. I tried to fall asleep, but to no avail. For the first time in my life – on learning how close I had come to not seeing the light of day – I fully realized what a precious gift life is.
"Throughout the night, scenes from my boyhood intermingled with images of the heroine I had for a mother: “Hey, Victor, your Mom sure talks funny. I could hardly understand her.” Gee, I wonder why my Mom can’t talk nice English like all the other mothers can. “No, I could never do that! I would rather die first!” And she only went as far as the third grade in a backward school in Southern Italy. “Is that your grandmother?” No, that’s my Mom. Her hair turned snow white when she was 30. She had me when she was 35. “At two months, all the major organs are formed and functioning. All that is required for birth is time and nourishment.” – “No, I could never do that! I would rather die first.”
"I would like to close with the inspiring words that Cardinal József Mindzenty penned many years ago about motherhood:
“A Christian mother cannot claim the honor of having built Notre Dame Cathedral. She need not. She has built something more magnificent than any cathedral – a dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby’s body. The angels have not been blessed with such a grace…God joins forces with mothers in performing this act of creation. What on God’s good earth is more glorious than this – to be a mother?”

Pope John Paul II Urges Prayer and Fasting for Life
"...a great prayer for life is urgently needed, a prayer which will rise up throughout the world. Through special initiatives and in daily prayer, may an impassioned plea rise to God, the Creator and lover of life, from every Christian community, from every group and association, from every family and from the heart of every believer. Jesus himself has shown us by his own example that prayer and fasting are the first and most effective weapons against the forces of evil (cf. Mt 4:1-11). As he taught his disciples, some demons cannot be driven out except in this way (cf. Mk 9:29). Let us therefore discover anew the humility and the courage to pray and fast so that power from on high will break down the walls of lies and deceit: the walls which conceal from the sight of so many of our brothers and sisters the evil of practices and laws which are hostile to life. May this same power turn their hearts to resolutions and goals inspired by the civilization of life and love."

The Cry of Unborn Future Priests
Have you ever thought of how many future priests might have been victims of abortion? Faithful prayer warriors/counselors who keep vigil outside abortion centers could tell you that it is not unusual to see rosaries hanging from car mirrors of abortion clients, or for girls/women who are coming for abortions to admit to being Catholic.
+++
In this Year of the Priest, it would be good to include prayers for the protection of all unborn future priests--not just those already conceived, but all those who will be conceived until the end of time. Almighty God, their Creator, already knows the ones that have been chosen by Him to be His priests: "Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you." (Jeremiah 1:5).
+++
I know one faithful priest whose birth mother chose life for her baby, and unselfishly gave him up for adoption. Through her generosity, the Church has gained one very good priest. With how many more Masses, Holy Communions, priestly blessings, Confessions heard, teachings on the Gospel of Jesus, hours of Eucharistic adoration, etc. has the Church been blessed because of this one priest?--too many to count! How many blessings have we possibly missed because future priests were aborted? Since the Church has an admitted shortage of priestly vocations, (especially in some nations), could one reason be that many of the unborn priests God provided for His Church were not allowed to be born?
+++
The USA is definitely one of the nations suffering a shortage of priestly vocations.
It does not seem unreasonable to assume that some of the approximately FIFTY MILLION unborn who were deliberately and legally aborted in our nation might have been chosen by God for the priesthood. According to the Official Catholic Directory 2009, 22% of the USA population are registered Catholics.
+++
With such a high percentage of USA Catholics, now and in the past, how could it come to pass that abortion became legal in this nation and continues to remain legal? We have the privilege to vote to protect human life from conception to natural death! We have freedom to gather in worship and prayer to beg God's powerful protection of our tiniest brothers and sisters in Christ and for the conversion of hearts! We have priests, other Christs, to teach the sanctity of life! When there are 68 million American Catholics, Christian soldiers, armed for battle by the power of the Holy Spirit--how can it be that God's unborn children are allowed to be legally killed in America at the rate of FOUR THOUSAND each day?
+++
For the unborn who have already been aborted, (including the unborn chosen for priesthood), we can beg God's forgiveness and make reparation. For those still at risk, we can join the spiritual battle for their lives and for the souls of those involved in the sin of abortion. There is much we can do, but at this time I urge you to join the 40 Days for Life campaign which will begin on September 23, 2009--a peaceful, ecumenical, international campaign for life based on prayer, fasting, peaceful vigil outside abortion centers, and community outreach. 40 Days for Life is a highly endorsed, effective weapon in the spiritual warfare waged against the unborn. Even if you've never before been actively involved in saving the lives of the unborn, please consider getting involved NOW--YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
+++
Blessed Mother, thank you for saying "yes" to life for Jesus, the one Eternal High Priest and Savior of mankind! Please protect the lives of the unborn chosen for priesthood (and all the unborn) until the end of time. Through your powerful intercession, I beg for a miracle of grace for the USA and the whole world--that the lives of future priests (and all the unborn) will be cherished and nurtured as the blessings from God that they are.
