Clerical Reform: Series on the Priesthood by Father S.

"Offer to My Father, for My priests,
the spirit of prayer of My divine Heart,
My spirit of contemplation,
the perfect union of My Heart with Him.
That is what is lacking in so many of My priests;
a spirit of prayer, an intense interior life."

~ Jesus to Blessed Dina Belanger ~

Clerical Reform is definitely a blog worth following!
Anyone who has a heart for helping priests should read the Series on the Priesthood by Fr. S. Any Catholic who doesn't have a heart for helping priests--but should--ought to read his series. Hopefully, many brother priests are reading and benefitting from what he has to say. Father addresses himself to brother priests, but his writings contains valuable insights and counsel of benefit to all readers. I have emailed a link to his series to priest and lay friends. Maybe some of you know someone who would benefit from what Father S has written. Excerpts from today's post follow:

"The hardest part of a priest's life is the interior life. It is the daily working at prayer, offering Holy Mass, mortification, and rooting out of sin; and this is where persecution comes in. The evil one is clever; have no doubt of that. As such, you can expect that you will receive temptation at your weakest spots to the degree that you seek to become like unto Jesus Christ. The more you root out sin, the more you will be besieged. Undoubtedly, the grace of Our Lord is more powerful than any created power, but it is hard to take advantage of. We foolishly think, over and over, that we can let our guard down. "I can have a couple of glasses of wine. I know the last time I did that it led to temptations against purity, but that won't happen tonight." Or, "I can sit and talk with these priests. I know that every other time I do so we get to gossiping and detraction, but this time I'll be fine." The evil one has us reconnoitered. The only means to growing in holiness is drawing close to Christ and away from sin. So long as we want to have both we will fall flat on our faces. This is the persecution we have to expect.

"So, what is our main antidote? Our main antidote is the holy hour, period. If you are not praying for a significant amount of time each day, you are not coming to know the Beloved as you should be. Your preaching will lack fullness and your ministry will lack fullness. Go and pray and stop making excuses. While there are sometimes reasons for cutting the hour short, there are no excuses for not trying to make it each day. Remember that the evil one is playing for keeps and a collar around the neck can be just as easily used to pull us down or raise us up."

Advent: A Penitential Season

In 1927 Jesus complained to Blessed Dina Belanger about Catholics doing little or no penance during Advent:

"I have need of reparation. The justice of My Father is enkindled. Offer to My Father My merits and My Blood to appease the arm of His Justice. How many Catholics concern themselves little or not at all with penance during the season of Advent! How many Catholics neglect to prepare for My coming at Christmas! Give Me your day, today, in spirit of atonement. Offer it also in Thanksgiving to My Father for all the graces He bestows on souls; for there are so many who never think of thanking Him.

Reparation Needed for Priests in Purgatory

"Tell the Father that if he wishes to please St. Michael, he will most earnestly recommend devotion to the souls in Purgatory. People in the world do not think of it. When they have lost their relatives or friends, they say a few prayers, weep for a few days and that is the end of it. The souls are henceforth abandoned. It is true that they merit this, for while they were on earth they neglected the dead. The Divine Judge deals with us in this world according to our actions in the former. Those who have forgotten the holy souls are forgotten in their turn. This is only fair. Perhaps if they had been reminded to pray for the dead and had been told a little about Purgatory, they might have acted differently."

"If only it were given to you to understand with what scorn and indifference Jesus is treated on earth, not only by the world in general, but how he is insulted, mocked and held in derision even by those who ought to love Him. Such indifference is even found among religious communities of men and women, His chosen people, where He ought to be treated as a Friend, a Father, a Spouse. Often He does not even receive the consideration shown to a stranger.

The indifference is also found among the clergy...He is treated as an equal by those who should tremble at the thought of the awful and august mission with which they have been entrusted. The most sacred reality is often treated with coldness and boredom. How many are those who have the interior spirit? I can assure you there are but few. Here in Purgatory the priests who are expiating their indifference and their want of love are numerous. Their culpable negligence must be atoned for...You can judge from this that God who is so good and loving to all His creatures finds few who love and console Him."

The above quotes are taken from An Unpublished Manuscript on Purgatory, revelations of a nun soul in Purgatory to a nun that she had lived with while on earth (chosen by God to aid in her deliverance from Purgatory). The revelation about lack of an interior spirit echoes the message given by Jesus to Blessed Dina Belanger: "Offer to My Father, for My priests, the spirit of prayer of My divine Heart, My spirit of contemplation, the perfect union of My Heart with Him. That is what is lacking in so many of My priests; a spirit of prayer, an intense interior life."

Our Catholic priests accept great responsibilities for God, His Church and for souls. It is only just that we who benefit from their priestly ministry should be charitable to them after their death. According to St. Padre Pio, "...we priests have more responsibilities before God, and when we appear before Him it is with fear and trembling."

The Infinite Love of Jesus for Souls

"My Heart so loves souls that to obtain the affection of a single one,
though it were the most miserable, the least worthy,
I would have suffered infinitely more than I did during my whole mortal life,
had it been possible."

The love and Patience of the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus

"Offer Me to My Father.

Offer the love and patience of My Eucharistic Heart.

By the offering of My Heart,

you can atone infinitely for all the outrages

which My Father and I receive..."

Jesus Speaks to Blessed Dina About Priests

"My priests should be other Christs. During my Agony, My Heart wept tears of blood over a certain number of My priests. Many among them possess eloquence and human learning but they lack the fundamental science, holiness... they do not live sufficiently in My intimacy, by self-denial and unalloyed love...I love them so much!...A great number are My consolation, My glory, and My honor, but many, alas, grieve Me..."

"My priests rule the entire religious society. If they were really holy, their mere presence anywhere, at church, on the street, or elsewhere would evoke a thought of Me: they would draw souls to Me. In meeting them, one would feel as if another Christ were passing by. The devil fears a single soul in whom I act freely more than an army of lukewarm and indifferent souls in whom My action is paralyzed, because in the former I act with My power while I am forced to leave the latter to their own weakness."

"I thirst for love, I thirst for souls! A great number of souls are being lost because many of My priests do not love Me enough. They do not touch hearts because they are not closely enough united to Me. They count too much on human means and their own activity, and not enough on My divine action."

"Offer to My Father, for My priests, the spirit of prayer of My divine Heart, My spirit of contemplation, the perfect union of My Heart with Him. That is what is lacking in so many of My priests; a spirit of prayer, an intense interior life."

Saturdays for Priests In Union with Blessed Mother Mary

"My priests...I love them so much!...

I invite them to become OTHER CHRISTS.

That is their vocation...

Will you give Me each Saturday,

in union with My divine Mother,

to love Me,

to pray for My priests

and deny yourself for them?"

The Church's Greatest Treasure

"If souls but understood the Treasure they possess in the Divine Eucharist,
it would be necessary to encircle the Tabernacles with the strongest of ramparts for,
in the delerium of a devouring and holy hunger,
they would press forward themselves to feed on the Bread of Angels;
the churches would overflow with adorers
consumed with love for the Divine Prisoner,
no less by night than by day."

"Bring souls to My Eucharistic Heart"

In the Autobiography of Dina Belanger, Jesus shares many confidences. Jesus was specific in His requests of Blessed Dina, a Religious of Jesus and Mary. http://www.leveillee.net/ancestry/dinadates.htm
***
Jesus said to Blessed Dina,
***
"My Heart overflows with grace for souls! Bring souls to My Eucharistic Heart."
***
The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, and the Congregation for the Clergy have been specific also in asking priests, religious, and laity to go to Jesus in the Eucharist to pray for priests.
